According to the United Nations, 1.2 billion people worldwide have no access to electricity and another million only have access sporadically. When electricity is available, batteries used per personal devices contain toxic materials and are hard to depose of safely. Current solutions to to these issues require specific environmental conditions such as wind and solar which are expensive and not consistently available.

 

The Carbon Battery  is an environmentally neutral battery for generating electrical energy through mechanical instead of chemical means taking advantage of a new and promising material, graphene. It's designed for personal use in situations such as lighting a home in a rural area during monsoon season where alternative green energy such as solar is not feasible. Because it is biodegraable it does not pose the environmental hazards of traditional batteries.
